Approaching fall

8 September 2008

The month of August was a beautiful one–much cooler than July. We had the air conditioning off many days in a row, which was delightful.

We filled the last few weeks of summer with fun things, including

-a trip to the Humptons’ house to play in the pool

-picking raspberries (twice!) at a nearby farm

-hanging out at the YMCA Family Fun pool

-two trips to Sesame Place

-a trip to the Air Mobility Command Museum in Dover with Dad Humpton

-a trip to the beach with the Atlases

-James’ birthday

Evelyn’s tomato plant produced quite a few beautiful tomatoes, which James and I have been enjoying. It has

been a source of great pride for Evelyn.

Now, it’s September, and Evelyn has her first full week of school. She goes MWF from 9-11:30. So far, she seems to like her teachers, Miss Suzie and Miss Barbara. Her class is small, with only 11 children, and Evelyn

is settling in well. This week, a police officer is going to come in with his troop car so the kids can see it up close (it’s “Safety and Citizenship” week. The following week they are having “A” week.

A boy Evelyn knows from her summer camp is in her class, so it was nice that there was a familiar face, since it’s a different school than she attended last year.

The other day, I asked Evelyn what she would like for dinner. She squealed, “Cantaloupe and Cheeseburgers!”

She also is delighting at the sight of some trees’ leaves turning colors. Both girls are very excited about Halloween.

Charlotte, be careful of those goats! They can be nasty!

Evelyn – what a great tomato! You are the first one in the (Humpton side) family to have a “green thumb!”
