Reflections on Mortality, 7:32

Cal (3.5): “Do you love me a lot, Mommy?”

Me: “Yes, I do love you a lot.”

Cal: “When I get very old I’m gon’ die.”

Me: “Yes. But that’s many, many years from now.”

Cal: “And you gon’ get very old and you’re gon’ die with me? You’re getting older now?”

Me: “Yes, but I probably have many, many years left. Can we talk about something else?”

He hits me (by accident) in the face with a Thomas book: “Let’s read this.”
