Oedipus Calvinus

Calvin (3.5), sprawled on the floor: “Look how long my feet are. Look how long my legs are.”

Me: “Yes, you are getting very tall. Do you think you will be tall like Mommy?”

Calvin: “Yes. Tall like you. And tall like Daddy. And Daddy will die.”

Me: “Why do you say that? Why are you talking about Daddy dying?”

Calvin: “Because when I grow up I will be big and I will be the Daddy instead.”

Me: “What do you mean?”

Calvin, looking coy: “I want to be YOUR Daddy.”
